Flakes of native gold
Clogau Gold Mine, Bontddu, Gwynedd, North Wales
Small flakes of real gold from the Clogau Gold Mine (also known as the Clogau St. David's Mine), the most famous gold mine in Britain. These flakes of gold were panned at Clogau Mine in 1989 and are from an old collection. Gold panning in the area is now restricted.
They are presented in a glass gemstone box.
Welsh gold mining has a history stretching back at least 2000 years. Welsh gold has traditionally been used to create wedding rings for members of the Royal family.
Gold occurring naturally is known as 'native' gold. A 'native' element is an element in its pure state and not combined with other elements.
