VINTAGE GEORGES CUVIER
CENTENARY MEDAL (1932)

Baron Cuvier (1769-1832), known as Georges Cuvier, was a French naturalist and zoologist, sometimes called the ‘founding father of paleontology’.

Cuvier was a major figure in natural sciences in the 19th century, particularly in the field of comparative anatomy, comparing living animals with fossils.

The obverse of the medal has the head of Cuvier and the reverse has his year of birth and death, together with Montbéliard, his place of birth.
