CALCITE CRYSTALS
Very large and attractive
crystal group

Dulcote Quarry,
near Wells, Somerset

A large and very fine group of calcite crystals from a Somerset limestone quarry. This would make an excellent decorative piece for home or office. Calcite crystallises in a number of forms and this type is known as 'dog-tooth' crystals.

It was collected from this famous, and now disused, quarry in the early 1970s. The crystals formed part of a giant crystal-lined cavity in the Carboniferous limestone and it is remarkable that the collector managed to it extract it with virtually no damage to the crystals.

There is slight bruising on a very small area of crystals, and one or two crystal terminations are missing, but it seems rather unnecessary to even mention this as it is such a stunning piece and an excellent example of calcite.

Please note: This specimen weighs over 10 kilograms!
