This ammonite has been polished to reveal the intricate and beautiful suture lines, which are where the walls of the chambers meet the outer shell. The reverse of the ammonite has the original shell preserved.
The chambers themselves have now been infilled with calcite. The original shell on the reverese shows some iridescent 'mother of pearl'.
