ULEXITE

Boron, Kern County, California USA

Ulexite contains the element boron which has many practical uses in industry. It is mined at the Borax mine near the town of Boron, California.

Ulexite is an evaporite mineral along with gypsum and halite and has been formed by the evaporation of large bodies of water in prehistoric times.

This variety of ulexite is called ‘clam shell ulexite’ due to its resemblance to a clam shell. It occurs near the top of the borate deposit at Boron.
