TWO BONY PLATES OF GLYPTODON

Over one million years old

Pampas Region, Argentina

Glyptodon is a large extinct, heavily armoured mammal related to the armadillos. It originated in South America and lived during the Ice Age, becoming extinct around 10,000 years ago.

Glyptodont was very large, usually around the size and weight of a Volkswagen Beetle. Their bodies were covered with a thick protective shell consisting of hundreds of bony plates, and are therefore armoured like turtles.

These two fossil bony plates are presented in a lidded gift box (price is for both with label as shown). From an old collection.
