(Tectonically distorted)
465 million years old (Ordovician period)
Ille et Vilaine region, Brittany, France
Trilobites from the Ordovician strata of the Ille-et-Vilaine region in Brittany are often found to be distorted. This distortion is due to the intense tectonic activity, (compression, and metamorphism) that has affected the rocks of this area over millions of years.
The rock has been compressed and stretched, which in turn has physically deformed the rigid trilobite embedded within it.
This specimen is a very good example of this phenomenon.
