TRICERATOPS
FRILL SECTION

Triceratops horridus

67 million years old (Late Cretaceous period)

Lance Formation.
Lusk, Niobrara County, Wyoming, USA

Triceratops is an iconic dinosaur with a large skull, horns and a distinctive bony frill.

There has been much speculation about the purpose of the frill.  It could have been used for courtship displays or perhaps to regulate body temperature.

This is a super section of Triceratops frill from an old collection. It is all original bone with no restoration, only repair and infilling of cracks. It has been treated with a preservative.
