TRANSPARENT/TRANSLUCENT CALCITE - Derbyshire
« backTRANSPARENT/TRANSLUCENT CALCITE
Derbyshire
A fragment of a large calcite crystal. Although this piece is effectively transparent, the multiple cleavage planes inside the crystal mean that it isn't possible to see completely through it.
Calcite breaks, or cleaves, readily along certain planes, forming curious ‘rhomb-shaped’ fragments. Each fragment has flat faces with precisely the same angles between the faces. This piece demonstrates the cleavage planes very well.
