THE MINES OF ALSTON MOOR
British Mining No. 47 (Monograph of the Northern Mines Research Society)
By R.A. Fairbairn
(Second hand copy in 'as new' condition)
Alston Moor covers some of the highest ground in the Northern Pennines. The lead mining industry here was established in early times, and for much of the 19th century there were over 100 lead mines operating in Alston Moor.
This book provides a history of the local industry, and particularly, of the local mines. It divides the area into groups of related veins and gives details of their history, operating companies, geology and leases.
