(Second hand copy in unused condition)
By George Foster
Meteor Crater is a meteorite impact crater about 60 km east of Flagstaff, Arizona. The crater is over a kilometre in diameter and was created about 50,000 years ago during the Pleistocene epoch, and is the finest example of a meteorite crater in the world.
The object that created the crater was a nickel-iron meteorite estimated to have been about 50 metres across. Most of the meteorite vaporised on impact.
