THE GEOLOGY OF THE COUNTRY
NEAR HASTINGS AND DUNGENESS
By H. J. Osborne White
(Second hand copy in good condition) (Hardback) (1928)
This 104 page hardback memoir from 1928 describes the geology of parts of East Sussex and Kent; including the resorts of Bexhill, Hastings and St Leonards and the towns of Battle, Rye and Winchelsea.
The Lower Cretaceous Hastings Beds underlie much of the area. East of Hastings these beds form sea cliffs up to 150 m high, which have steep, wooded glens. The older Purbeck Beds crop out in small inliers near Battle, and these contain economic deposits of gypsum. The eastern district comprises the low-lying reclaimed coastal deposits of Romney Marsh and the shingle foreland of Dungeness.
Hardback. 104 pages. Black and white plans, sections, maps and photographs. Published by the Geological Survey. (HMSO). 1928. Ex library copy. Some wear to spine but good condition for its age.
