Very large, but very thin (6mm), unpolished slice of fossilised palm wood from the Catahoula Formation in Western Louisiana and Texas.
Palm wood is a fibrous material that surrounded hollow tubes through which the plant transported water and nutrients. When the fossilised wood is cut perpendicular to the trunk these tubes can be seen as closely packed dots.
