Returns

You have the right to return goods purchased on this website in accordance with UK law.  You may therefore cancel your order and return the goods within 14 days for a full refund, including the cost of delivery to you.  However, before doing so you must contact us by email or telephone informing us of your decision to withdraw from the purchase and quoting the order number and/or details of the order supplied to you. Please give your reasons for return.

You are responsible for the cost of returning the goods and the risk of loss or damage when doing so. You are therefore advised to take out sufficient insurance to cover their value. Please obtain proof of posting. This does not affect your rights when we are at fault, for example in the case of goods that have not been accurately described or are faulty.  Goods returned must be in a saleable condition.

Product descriptions

Every effort is made to ensure that the descriptions of the items on this website are accurate.  However, these are natural products and vary considerably in colour, size and appearance. We cannot therefore guarantee that all items will be identical to the descriptions. In the unlikely event that an item is not as described it can be returned for a full refund at any time.

Authenticity

All minerals and fossils for sale on this website are genuine.  We only deal with trusted collectors and suppliers. However, if you have doubts about the authenticity of any item please contact us for clarification or reassurance. In the unlikely event that an item is not as described it can be returned for a full refund at any time.

Precautions to be taken with specimens

Sensible precautions should be taken when handling mineral and rock specimens as some can be easily damaged and others may be affected by high humidity, temperature or exposure to sunlight.  Some minerals, although not hazardous if properly handled and stored, may still contain elements or compounds that are poisonous if ingested.

The items for sale on this website are not toys and are not suitable for children under the age of three years. Some items may contain small parts. They should not be put in the mouth.
You should always treat mineral specimens with care. Further information on individual mineral species can be obtained from the Mindat website using the search field: https://www.mindat.org

Restoration and repair

It is common for fossils, particularly fossil bones, to be collected in several pieces and therefore have to be repaired. It is completely acceptable, therefore for fossils to be sold as two or more pieces that have been glued together. Where we are aware of this it will be stated in the description. Minor restoration is also acceptable, usually in the form of small cracks being infilled with a filler matching the colour of the rock or fossil. Again, this is referred to in the item description where appropriate. Almost all museum specimens have been restored to some degree.

Major restoration is a different matter, as are 'composite' specimens where fossils or parts of fossils have been reassembled in positions where they do not belong, usually to make a more attractive display piece. If a specimen has been subject to major restoration or is a composite this will always be mentioned in the description so that customers can make an informed decision whether to purchase. Such a specimen may still be aesthetically pleasing although of much less scientific value.
