TEKTITES IN THE GEOLOGICAL RECORD: SHOWERS OF GLASS FROM THE SKY
(New copy in sealed cellophane wrapper)
By Joe McCall
Tektites are mysterious objects, formed from showers of molten rock ejected from giant meteorite impacts at hypersonic velocities. They are found in several parts of the world and include the beautiful translucent green moldavites from Eastern Europe - the result of a meteorite impact in Germany 15 million years ago.
This book is divided into 9 chapters, covering the history of tektite collecting and research and describing the four major areas of the world (known as strewn fields) where tektites are found. It also describes the possible origins of the enigmatic material known as Lybyan desert glass.
Illustrated throughout with a mix of black and white photographs, diagrams and maps.
