TALC

Loch Barabhaig, Sleat,
Isle of Skye, Scotland

An attractive pale-green foliated mass of talc from an unusual locality on the Isle of Skye.

Talc is the softest known mineral (it is No. 1 on Moh’s scale of hardness); it can easily be cut with a knife or scratched with a fingernail.

Talc is not only used to make talcum powder. It is also used in paper making, pharmaceuticals, ceramics and numerous other manufacturing processes.
