TALC
Ginzling, Mayrhofen, Zillertal Alps, Austria
An attractive pale-green foliated mass of talc from the Austrian Alps. It is a translucent green colour when held up to a strong light (see photo).
Talc is the softest known mineral (it is No. 1 on Moh’s scale of hardness); it can easily be cut with a knife or scratched with a fingernail.
Talc is not only used to make talcum powder. It is also used in paper making, pharmaceuticals, ceramics and numerous other manufacturing processes.
