AMBER FROM SUMATRA

About 20 million years old
(Miocene period)

Lampung Province, Sumatra, Indonesia

Unpolished piece of raw amber from the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. It resembles hard toffee.

The amber from Indonesia is a fossil tree resin found in association with coal and lignite.  Some of the amber from Indonesia is known as ‘blue amber’ due to a surface fluorescence when exposed to ultraviolet light.
