Cut and polished slice
Holy Cross Mountains, Poland
This unusual and highly attractive variety of flint is from Poland. It is mined commercially near the town of Sandomierz.
It occurs in chalky limestone dating from the Jurassic period and has been known about since prehistoric times. It is used extensively for jewellery.
This example is a thick slice through a flint nodule. It has been cut and polished on one side to reveal the banding. It is presented in a lidded gift box.
