Force Crag Mine, near Keswick, Cumbria

strous, black crystals of sphalerite from this famous disused mine which occupies a spectacular position at the head of the Coledale Valley.

Sphalerite is the chief ore of zinc.

This specimen was collected underground in 1978. 
The site is now a scheduled ancient monument and owned by the National Trust.
