Lustrous, black crystals of sphalerite, richly scattered in cavities in hard limestone from this disused lead mine in the northern Pennines.
Sphalerite is the chief ore of zinc. Sphalerite occurs with galena, the chief ore of lead.
A delightful little specimen! Extremely attractive. It was collected in the 1980s.
