Sparkling 'specular' (mirror-like) hematite crystals lining a cavity in hematite ore. Perched on the hematite crystals are translucent quartz crystals.
This specimen is from the classic iron-mining area of west Cumbria, on the edge of the English Lake District. Mineral specimens from these mines can be found in museum collections throughout the world.
From an old collection. Collected in 1971.
