SELENITE CRYSTALS - Winnipeg, Canada
« backSELENITE CRYSTALS
Red River Floodway, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Fine group of gemmy crystals of selenite from this classic Canadian locality. The crystals are transparent and of a pale honey colour.
They are unique to this locality and characterised by some of the crystals having grown large and shooting out dramatically from the ball of smaller crystals.
The crystals were found in clay excavated for extensions of the Red River Floodway project around the city of Winnipeg. They are fluorescent under UV light and phosphorescent (glowing briefly after the UV light is turned off).
There is slight bruising to one side of the 'ball' (picture 2), but otherwise this is an undamaged specimen. Presented in a lidded gift box.
Size: approx 8.5 x 6 x 6 centimetres
Weight: 182 grams
