The large transparent crystals of gypsum (selenite) from the Jurassic Purbeck Beds of Mountfield Mine in East Sussex are the finest ever found in Britain. They came from underground workings at the mine, which is now sealed and closed.
This specimen is a transparent piece cleaved from a very large crystal. A fine example from a classic locality.
