MINERALS OF SCOTLAND, WALES AND IRELAND
This category includes a large part of the British Isles and numerous, widely-scattered mineral localities in a wide variety of geological settings. Many of these minerals occur as contituents of rocks rather than in traditional mineral deposits. Howevever, several important mineral deposits are present, such as the Leadhills and Wanlockhead mining area in Southern Scotland and the Central Wales Orefield where numerous metal mines where once operating, mainly in the 19th century.
