Satin spar is a fibrous variety of gypsum. This specimen was collected underground at Brightling Gypsum Mine in the 1990s.
Brightling Mine opened in 1963 and is still working today. It has the largest reserves of gypsum in the UK, which occur in the Jurassic Purbeck Beds deep below Sussex.
