Celebrating over 200 years of dinosaur discoveries in the UK
(second hand item in mint condition)
In October 2013 the Royal Mail issued a set of special dinosaur stamps to mark over 200 years of dinosaur fossil discoveries in the UK.
Although dinosaurs are often associated with North America, the earliest discoveries of dinosaurs were made in England in the early 1800s.
The dinosaurs and marine reptiles in this 10-stamp set have strong connections with the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, the Isle of Wight, Oxfordshire, Surrey and Sussex. The set features illustrations of the dinosaurs Polacanthus, Iguanodon, Ornithocheirus, Baryonyx, Dimorphodon, Hypsilophodon, Cetiosaurus, Megalosaurus, and the marine reptiles Plesiosaurus and Ichthyosaurus.
The pack contains facts and illustrations of the dinosaurs and marine reptiles featured, where in the UK they were found, and information about the pioneers of British palaeontology and the present generation of fossil hunters.
A novel feature of these stamps is that they have been printed so that the animals ‘break out’ of the self-adhesive stamp frame.
