Treburland Manganese Deposits, Altarnun, Cornwall
Rhodonite is a pink manganese silicate, often used in jewellery. The name comes from the word rhodos, the Greek for rose, referring to the colour.
This is an attractive specimen of pink rhodonite, interspersed with black pyrolusite, a manganese oxide. It is from manganese workings a short distance to the east of the Treburland Mine, which was worked for tin and wolfram.
A nice example from an old collection, collected in the 1970s.
