REPLICA OF ICHTHYOSAUR SCLEROTIC RING (Second hand item - boxed and relabelled)
« backICHTHYOSAUR SCLEROTIC RING
Cast of an original museum specimen from the Jurassic of England
Lower Jurassic
About 190 million years old
Ichthyosaurs have the largest eye sockets of all known vertebrates.
Surrounding the central eyeball aperture is a cup-shaped ring of overlapping bone segments protecting the eye against the water pressure. This suggests that these marine reptiles may have hunted at great depths in the tropical Jurassic seas.
This replica is thought to have been produced by Stuart Baldwin's company Educational Palaeontological Reproductions in the 1990s.
Presented in a new plastic display box and provided with a new descriptive label
