« backPYRITE CRYSTALS ON DOLOMITE
Alston Moor, Cumbria
Bright, brassy crystals of pyrite (fools gold) scattered on a bed of dolomite crystals.
An unusual and very pretty mineral specimen that sits well.
An old label on the reverse of the specimen reads ‘Alston Moor, Cumberland’ which is an area of mostly moorland centred on the town of Alston. The area contains a large number of disused mines which have been the source of thousands of spectacular mineral specimens that can be found in museums throughout the world.
