POLYCHROME JASPER - Madagascar
« backPOLYCHROME JASPER
Polished on one side only
Madagascar
One of the most attractive varieties of jasper is ‘polychrome jasper’ – a relatively recent discovery from Madagascar. This example is polished on one side only so that the natural colour and texture of the rock can also be seen.
Jasper is an impure and opaque form of silica, sometimes banded in shades of colours. Some varieties are not true jasper but clay or shale, which has been baked in contact with a hot igneous rock, but they can be just as beautiful.
