Pinolite (also called pinolith) is a metamorphic rock with a striking appearance. It resembles an abstract painting.
Pinolite is a grey to almost black dolomite with inclusions of white magnesite. The magnesite grains resemble pine nuts (hence the name). The dark colour of the dolomite is caused by graphite.
This piece has been polished on one side with the natural surface on the reverse.
