AMBER

A piece of waterworn amber from Suffolk

40 million years old

A reasonable-sized piece of waterworn amber from the Suffolk coast. It has been broken on one side to reveal the colour of the interior.

Pieces of amber have been picked up on England’s east coast beaches for centuries, most of it from Norfolk and Suffolk.  It is identical to amber from the Baltic area but how it got here is not known. This attractive piece of amber was collected from a Suffolk beach many years ago.  It was part of an old collection.

Amber is one of the most fascinating of all natural substances.  It was originally resin that was exuded from trees millions of years ago. It takes millions of years for tree resin to fossilise into amber.
