PART OF A FOSSIL FISH

260 million years old

Marl Slate Formation
Thrislington Quarry, Ferry Hill, County Durham

During the late Permian period a large sea known as the Zechstein Sea stretched between what is now the east coast of England, through Germany to Poland.

Fossil fish from this sea have been found in quarries in Sunderland and County Durham but perhaps the best known locality is Thrislington Quarry.

This fossil was collected in 1989. It is presented in a lidded gift box.
