NATURAL STONE, WEATHERING PHENOMENA, CONSERVATION STRATEGIES AND CASE STUDIES

Geological Society Special Publication 205

Edited by S Siegesmund et al.

(Second hand copy in very good condition)

The weathering of historical buildings, monuments and sculptures of natural stone is a problem that has been encountered for hundreds of years. However, a dramatic increase in deterioration of our built heritage has been observed during the past century.

To understand the complex interaction that the stone in a building suffers with its environment requires an interdisciplinary approach provided by the geosciences, chemistry, materials sciences, biology and construction engineers.

This volume contains a collection of papers dealing with the weathering of natural building stones, weathering processes, fabric dependence of physical properties, biodeterioration, quality assessment and conservation of stones, and environmental conditions. It is an academic book and not suitable for the general reader.

Published by the Geological Society. 2002. Hardback. 448 pages.  Second hand copy in very good condition.
