NATIVE IRON
Khungtukun Massif, Taymyr Peninsula,
Northern Siberia, Russia
Native iron is iron in its metallic form rather than as an iron ore. It is extremely rare worldwide and the only major deposit is in West Greenland. This example is a polished slice of the igneous rock basalt, which is extremely rich in grains of native iron.
Please note: It is susceptible to rust and so should be kept dry and preferably not touched with the fingers.
The other source of pure iron on Earth is meteorites which have been prevented from rusting by the vacuum of space.
Presented in a plastic display box.
