Gold was first discovered in the Torrens River in the 1840s. Small amounts of gold are still found today by prospectors.
Gold occurring naturally is known as 'native' gold. A 'native' element is an element in its pure state and not combined with other elements. Other examples are native copper and native sulphur.
These are natural nuggets of alluvial gold, average 0.1 grams each. Each one presented in a glass gemstone display box with label as shown.
