NATIVE COPPER

Wheal Charlotte, near Porthtowan, Cornwall

A little specimen of native copper from this disused Cornish copper and tin mine. Provided in a plastic display box.

'Native' copper is copper that is not combined with any other chemical elements, in other words it is almost pure copper that occurs naturally.  Copper is one of only a few metallic elements that occur in its native form. Other examples are gold and silver. Native copper was an important source of copper in prehistoric times.
