MOOKAITE (LARGE POLISHED SLICE) - Western Australia
« backMOOKAITE
Large polished slice
Mooka Creek, Kennedy Range,
Western Australia
An beautiful slice of mookaite, polished on one side.
The gemstone Mookaite is named after the site in Australia where it occurs. It is often referred to as a variety of jasper but it is actually a siltstone of Cretaceous age that has been turned into quartz (silica), and is technically known as a ‘porcelanite’ from its resemblance to unglazed porcelain.
