MOOKAITE
Large example weighing over 1.5 kg
Mooka Creek, Kennedy Range,
Western Australia
A beautiful piece of uncut and unpolished, natural mookaite, exactly as found.
The gemstone Mookaite is named after the site in Australia where it occurs. It is often referred to as a variety of jasper but it is actually a siltstone of Cretaceous age that has been turned into quartz (silica), and is technically known as a ‘porcelanite’ from its resemblance to unglazed porcelain.

Caution: Just like flint, broken pieces of mookaite can have very sharp edges.
