REDWOOD) FROND
30 million years old
Salmon City Formation
Cow Creek, Idaho, USA
The Metasequoia or Dawn Redwood is a fast-growing deciduous tree. It has only one living species, which is native to Hubei province, China.
However, in the geological past it was very widespread and three fossil species are known. Before its discovery in China it was considered extinct and is therefore often referred to as a ‘living fossil’.
A nice specimen that stands upright for display. An additional frond is on the reverse.
