MAN, THE PRIMEVAL SAVAGE

By Worthington G. Smith

(Second hand copy) (1894)

Worthington G. Smith (1835-1917) was, among his many interests, an archaeologist specialising in the Palaeolithic era. He discovered several Lower Palaeolithic occupation sites including the famous site of Stoke Newington Common in London. He discovered a similar site at Caddington, Bedfordshire.

This rare book deals with his numerous discoveries, but particularly those at Caddington and Stoke Newington. It is beautifully illustrated with black and white engravings of Palaeolithic flint tools.

The original green cloth gilt board covers have some wear and also have a dent (see photo) but are in fair condition. Internally the book is clean but has the name of a previous owner and date (1925) on the title page and on two or three pages a few words have been underlined in red. The book is sound but the binding inside the front cover may need repair (see photo).

Published by Edward Stanford. 1894. Hardback. 349 pages.
