TOE BONE OF A
WOOLLY MAMMOTH

About 20,000 years old

Brown Bank, North Sea

An excellent example of a mammoth toe bone. It
was dredged from the Brown Bank on the North Sea floor.

During the coldest periods of the Ice Age the North Sea was dry land and occupied by herds of large mammals.

Ice Age bones are relatively young in geological terms and not completely fossilised. It has therefore been treated with a preservative.
