MAMMOTH MODEL

Model based on the famous 'Ilford mammoth' found in a brick pit in Ilford, Essex in 1864 and donated to the Natural History Museum, London.

The model is based on a study of the skull and bones by the Natural History Museum. The skull, and its nearly 3 metre long tusks, can be seen in the main entrance hall of the museum.

Recent research has concluded that the Ilford mammoth is the steppe mammoth (Mammuthus trogontherii), the direct ancestor of the woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius).

Moulded plastic. A descriptive label about the Ilford mammoth is included.
