MAGNETITE SAND
Kildonan, Sutherland, Scotland
This sand is almost entirely black magnetite. it was panned from the Kildonan Burn near Helmsdale in Sutherland in 1988. It is from an old collection.
The burns in this area have yielded gold to prospectors since the early nineteenth century but are famous for the 'Kildonan Gold Rush' of 1869. The burns are still panned for gold today.
Presented in a vintage glass phial with a cork stopper. The magnet is included.
