LUNAR METEORITE: A GENUINE ROCK FROM THE MOON - North-West Africa
« backVery small (0.15 grams) fragment
North-West Africa
Over a hundred meteorites worldwide have been identified as coming from the Moon as they have similar chemistries to the Apollo and Soviet samples. These Lunar meteorites are rocks that were ejected from the Moon millions of years ago by the impact of a giant meteor or comet.
This is a piece of the lunar meteorite known as NWA 11273. It is one of several meteorites found in North West Africa that have been identified as coming from the Moon. It was found near Tindouf, Algeria in 2017. The rock type is a feldspathic breccia and consists of fragments naturally cemented together, which is evidence of the rock being pulverized by meteorite impacts over millions of years.
Lunar meteorites are very rare. This is a very small fragment presented in a display box as shown, with a comprehensive label.
