LEDMORE MARBLE - Scotland
« backLEDMORE MARBLE
Ledmore Marble Quarry,
Assynt, North-West Scotland
500 million years old
The beautiful Ledmore marble is one of the only true marbles in Britain, its lime green colour with white and grey veins have made it popular as a decorative stone.
It was formed when the ancient Durness Limestone, of Cambrian age, was heated and recrystallised (‘metamorphosed’) when hot syenite magma was forced up through the rocks.
This is a cut slice of marble that has been polished on one side.
