« backLARVIKITE
Cut to a rectangular block and polished on one surface
Larvik, near Oslo, Norway
Larvikite is a variety of syenite and is one of the world’s most attractive decorative stones. It is only found around the town of Larvik in Norway.
It displays a beautiful iridescence on polished surfaces, caused by optical interference within the feldspar crystals. A similar effect is found in the variety of feldspar known as Labradorite.
Larvikite is used extensively to decorate buildings and shop fronts in town centres throughout the UK.
