A large single quartz crystal from a Cornish china clay pit.
It is unusual as there has been a second phase of crystal growth which has 'capped' the original quartz crystal. The original crystal is translucent and the secondary crystals form a sparkling coating along its length.
Quartz crystals are not uncommon in the Cornish china clay pits but this is a very good example. It was collected in 1970 and is from an old collection.
