Madagascar
Labradorite is a variety of the mineral feldspar that is commonly used as a gemstone. When held at a particular angle it shows an iridescent play of colours known as ‘schiller’, caused by light diffraction within the crystal.
It is named after the occurrence of the mineral in Labrador, Canada. A variety found in Finland is known as spectrolite.
This example is polished on one side with a natural surface on the other.
